Graphic Design Process
From Problem to Solution

6 Development
During the development of a design, prototyping is gravely important and critical for any project.
The design is still fragile-and may end up losing the original idea due to overworking the design or possibly losing the original concept or idea.

6.1 Iteration
The graphic design process is a constant exchange between inhibited experimentation and careful judgment. "Before I start to design I need to be inspired by something I see, something I smell, something I taste." Apeloig thinks of his pieces as woven objects.

Assignment 3

Signified: The silhouette of the state of Texas with a chainsaw blade protruding from the top.
Signifier: The title, Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Interpretant: When faced with this image, I instantly interpret Texas-chainsaw.
Representament:  The horrors of what is to come within the movie-a massacre in Texas

I am instantly drawn to the graphic quality of this image. The background color being red-which in relation to the imagery often represents blood or other dark images. The simple black and white silhouette draws me in as a viewer, because I know what it is, yet it makes me want to know so much more. Why is there a chainsaw attached to Texas? But the wording provides the movie title, which clarifies any inquires about the image. The information location provides a pleasant hierarchy. My eyes begin at the top of the blade and ends with the title, which clarifies any questions I may have had.

Text:
Introduction
When interviewing the featured designers, the authors were able to identify a few common threads in their experiences. “The busier a designer is, the more ideas mix in the mind for inventive solutions; ideas usually come when a designer least expects them; and exposure to visual art at a young age, through a relative, teacher, or friend, opened a path to design”. I find these factors quite applicable to my own experiences.

Research
“Maintaining an informed dialogue with the client commissioning the work forges a strong partnership that is fundamental to the success of the entire project.” To me, working with the commissioner of the project help fuel the ideal product. When both entities collaborate on a project, both minds are able to create what is needed.

Design Brief
“The design brief is key to defining the opportunities and limitations of a project, both of which are equally important in discovering the best solution.” The design brief is incredibly important. It helps the project keep on track and within the proper boundaries.
“If we didn’t have six weeks on this, we’d probably still be working on it now” Deadlines are vital to every product. If you do not put a time limit on what you are working on there is no real reason to finish. Everything contains deadlines, if the restaurant doesn’t bring out the costumers coffee on time, the costumer is not satisfied or fulfilled.
